Canada Caregiver Programs Opening For New Applications On Jan 1

Caregivers Pilot Programs 2023

Canada caregiver pilot programs; Home Child Care Provider Pilot and the Home Support Worker Pilot will start accepting new applications on January 1st, at 9 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST).

There has been new changes to apply for caregiver pilots in 2023 including new occupations codes under the TEER system as well as online applications.

In total 5,500 applications will be accepted in 2023 under both the pilot programs.

Furthermore, maximum number of applications under these pilot programs will now be divided into Gaining experience category and Direct to permanent residence category.

Caregivers New Caps In 2023

Home Child Care Provider Pilot (2,750 applications)

  • Gaining experience category: 1,650 applications (1,500 online applications and 150 alternate format applications).
  • Direct to permanent residence category: 1,100 applications
    • This includes 1,000 online applications and 100 alternate format applications.

Home Support Worker Pilot (2,750 applications)

  • Gaining experience category: 1,650 applications
  • Direct to permanent residence category: 1,100 applications

Occupations Eligible for Caregivers Program With New NOC Codes

Home child care providers (NOC 44100) Home Support Worker Pilot (NOC 44101)
Babysitter
Child care live-in caregiver
Child care provider – private home
Nanny
Parent’s helper
Babysitter – fitness centre
Babysitter – shopping centre
Attendant for persons with disabilities – home care
Family caregiver
Home support worker
Live-in caregiver – seniors
Personal aide – home support
Personal care attendant – home care
Respite worker – home support

What Are Caregiver Pilot Programs?

The Home Child Care Provider Pilot and the Home Support Worker Pilot are 5-year pilot programs that allow eligible caregivers and family members to come to Canada with the intention of becoming permanent residents.

To apply for any of these programs, applicants need a job offer from Canadian family, but NO LMIA is required.

After getting a job offer, eligible candidates can apply for occupation restricted work permit and come to Canada, and work temporarily to gain the experience.

With 2 years of experience, then these candidates can apply for permanent residency.

There are two categories under these pilot programs:

Gaining Experience Category Direct to Permanent Residency (PR) Category
This category is for applicants if they have not worked “OR” have less than 24 months of experience in any of the occupations under NOC 44100 or NOC 44101. This category is for applicants if they have total of 24 months or more experience (in last 36 months) in any of the occupations under NOC 44100 or NOC 44101
Eligible candidates get work permit to accumulate 24 months of experience in Canada and can than apply for Direct Permanent residency after gaining the full experience and becoming eligible under Direct to Permanent Residency Category To apply for PR, applicants need:
1. At least 24 months of full-time work experience in Canada in the last 36 months
2. Post-secondary education of at least 1 year
3. Any past experience or training that demonstrates candidate is able to do the work described in job offer.
To apply for work permit, applicants need:
1. A valid full-time job offer (IMM 5983 E)
2. CLB level 5 in English or French (IELTS = Reading 4 and rest of the modules 5)
3. Post-secondary education of at least 1 year
4. Any past experience or training that demonstrates candidate is able to do the work described in job offer.

Eligible candidates will need to apply online via new permanent residence online application portal.
