Canada-India Signs New Agreement Allowing Unlimited Flights!

Spread the love

Today, on November 14, 2022, Omar Alghabra, Minister of Transport, announced the signing of an expanded air transport agreement between Canada and India. The expanded agreement permits selected carriers to fly between the two countries an unlimited number of times. The prior agreement limited each country to 35 flights each week.

New census data released by Statistics Canada on October 26 revealed that India is the top source of immigrants in Canada. India accounts for nearly one in five (18.6%) of all new immigrants. Furthermore, Canada’s fourth largest foreign air transport market is in India.

This is a good news for Indian-origin immigrants living in Canada as well as future Canada aspirants from India. Additionally, this new agreement will also help in keeping the ticket prices in check to avoid unnecessary inflation of ticket rates.

Goal to improve India-Canada economic relations

The government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is hoping that improved access to one of the economies with the largest and fastest rate of growth will be beneficial for commerce and investment.

“By enabling the flow of products and people faster and easier,” the expanded agreement “will continue to facilitate trade and investment between Canada and India and help our businesses develop and flourish,” said Alghabra. Moreover, all cargo service rights are already unrestricted.

Removing the flight cap is crucial to pursue a complete trade agreement with India, according to Rohinton Medhora, a distinguished fellow at the think tank Centre for International Governance Innovation. In addition, it serves as a symbol that India and Canada take their business relationships seriously.

About India-Canada Expanded Transport Agreement

The first air transport agreement between Canada and India was signed in 1982 and was most recently expanded in 2011. This new agreement was reached as part of Canada’s Blue Sky policy, which promotes long-term, sustainable competition and the development of international aviation services.

The India-Canada transport agreement enables Canadian and Indian airlines to better meet the needs of the Canada-India air transport sector. Both countries’ authorities will maintain touch in the future to consider the agreement’s expansion.

The agreement allows Canadian airlines to fly to Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Mumbai. In contrast, Indian airlines can fly to Toronto, Montreal, Edmonton, Vancouver, and two other locations chosen by India.

So far, Air Canada is the only designated carrier that flies to Indian cities. But other domestic carriers can now also get designation status, explained the minister. Airlines can immediately exercise the new rights granted by the expanded agreement.

  • IRCC Increased Staff by 45%, But Processing Woes ContinueMonday, 14 November 2022, 5:14 PM EST

In Canada’s immigration department, new data indicate a significant increase in hiring. However, the processing continues to be slow. The operational capacity of Canada’s immigration department, IRCC has increased by 45 per cent from pre-pandemic levels, according to never-before-published data.

Canada has already received nearly as many applications for temporary and permanent residents as it did in 2019 before the pandemic in only eight months of 2022.

After a two-year slowdown, the country’s immigration system is already operating 45 percent above capacity in 2019. As a result, the number of applications for permanent and temporary residents processed through the system is expected to surpass the 3.2 million recorded last year before the pandemic.

IRCC increased workforce, yet processing times continue to grow

Unprecedented data shows that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada now employs 8,104 front-line operations employees, up from 5,583 in March 2019, with the majority of the new employees hired since the start of 2022. This is true even if the number of employees on leave increased gradually from 559 in March 2019 to 733 in October.

Additionally, the number of workers who continued to telework decreased from about 100 per cent at the start of the pandemic to 71.8 per cent last month.

Richard Kurland, an immigration attorney and policy analyst, says more employees can process more files. As a result, it should lead to higher volumes of decisions when combined with the artificial intelligence decision-making system.

“You are using the A.I. to do the strenuous labour. Now that the files that require human contact are on track and heading in the correct direction, you have more people to handle them.

However, Immigration officials would prefer to see the following numbers in check, though:

    • Web forms have become the primary method for applicants to contact the department, increasing from 1.61 million in 2020 to 2.26 million in 2021 and 2.42 million as of September this year;
    • Another important inquiry tool is access-to-information requests, which increased from 98,042 before the pandemic to 204,549 in 2021 before falling to 122,016 so far this year;
    • By 2022, there will have been 963 lawsuits filed against the immigration department, up from just 112 in 2019. These lawsuits sought a court order compelling authorities to process files.

Therefore, not all critics agree that the immigration system has stabilized.

Lack of clarity for the reasons for processing delays

Vancouver immigration attorney Steven Meurrens questioned why there were still backlogs despite having 45 percent more employees processing applications. He says he is confused why processing times “keep getting worse” in multiple programs and certain visa offices.

Further, he questioned if there are bugs with new technology or if certain visa postings have I.T. issues. Or other Technology-related concerns due to working from home. Unfortunately, since the department won’t reveal, it isn’t easy to deduce what’s happening from the statistics.

According to Ravi Jain of the Canadian Immigration Lawyers Association, the department’s increased staffing levels did not correspond to the enormous delay in how people were experiencing the online immigration system. He wants a royal commission to investigate the backlogs and delays in immigration.

In my opinion, they weren’t really doing much, says Jain. But nevertheless, they cannot get away with this. Because it’s harming individuals in so many ways, it just seems “criminal” to me, said Jain.

Through the main immigration programs, Canada had received more than 2.9 million new applications for permanent and temporary residents as of August 31. Those figures will undoubtedly raise the total above the 3.2 million files in 2019, with four months left in 2022.

In comparison to the total of 3,225,130 (235,257 permanent and 2.99 million temporary residents) reported in 2019, immigration officers processed 2.25 million immigration petitions throughout the time period—207,590 permanent and 2.04 million temporary immigrants.

    • New NOC Codes In Canada: Step-Wise Guide To Find Your NOCMonday, 14 November 2022, 1:50 PM EST

On November 16, IRCC switches to the new 2021 National Occupational Classification (NOC) version in alignment with Employment and Social Development of Canada (ESDC). It implies that the NOC 2016 skill type and skill level framework (NOC 0, A, B, C, and D) will now be represented by new 6-category system representing the training, education, experience, and responsibilities (TEER) required to work in an occupation.

As a result, the previous four-digit codes will become five digits under the new NOC 2021. It will also impact the eligibility criteria for all programs that use NOC. To prepare for these changes, you can learn the following in this article:

Steps to find new NOC code

Step 1: Visit the National Occupational Classification (NOC) official website.

      NOC 2021 and TEER

Step 2: You can search by job title or NOC code on this page. If you want to search by job title, look for the “Version” section, then click on the box below it that says “NOC 2016 Version 1.3.” Then, it will open a drop-down menu and select the latest “NOC 2021 Version 1.3.”

      NOC 2021 and TEER

Step 3: Once you select the new NOC 2021 version, enter your job title to find your NOC 2021 code and TEER category.

      NOC 2021 and TEER

Below is an example of a job titled Marketing Coordinator. You also view other matching job titles.

      NOC 2021 and TEER

      Understanding New NOC categories

All programs that previously used skill types or levels will now use NOC 2021 codes and TEER categories.

Most positions will remain in the TEER category, corresponding to the skill level in the table below. However, certain jobs may change to other TEER categories. The most significant change is the subdivision of Skill Level B jobs that will now become TEER 2 or TEER 3 jobs.

The table below explains the distribution between skill types or levels and corresponding TEER categories.

      NOC 2021 and TEER
      NOC 2021 and TEER

Immigration Programs that new NOC will affect

Generally, all programs that have used NOC skill types or levels to invite applicants will be affected. Therefore, all the programs below will switch to using NOC 2021 codes and TEER levels.

Additionally, several occupations will become eligible and ineligible under specific programs due to the new NOC 2021 implementation.

Frequently Asked Questions regarding new TEER system

Do you need to update your Express Entry profile as new NOC is implemented?
Suppose you are an Express Entry candidate who submitted your profile before November 16 but has not yet received an Invitation to Apply (ITA). Then, you must update your Express Entry profile with your new NOC 2021 code and TEER category.

If you receive an ITA before November 16, you can submit your Express Entry application using the NOC 2016 system. In addition, you can also refer to the NOC code mentioned on your ITA receipt and submit your application accordingly. However, there is no need for you to update to NOC 2021 if you received an ITA before November 16.

How will new NOC affect CRS scores?
The points distribution would be similar to what it has been with NOC 2016. Such as, so far, Express Entry applicants with arranged employment in Skill Levels 0, A and B have received 50 additional points.

With NOC 2021, applicants will receive 50 additional points for arranged employment provided their NOC is in TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3.

Similarly, you will continue to receive points for Canadian education. However, your work experience must be in occupations that are TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3.

How can you prepare for new NOC?
To be prepared, you can be mindful of the new changes in the TEER lead statements and primary duties. Although most duties may be similar, your work experience letter must reflect the duties mentioned in your new NOC 2021 code and TEER category.

Moreover, you must continue to match the duties in your NOC 2021 occupation if you want to claim points for the skilled experience inside and outside Canada.

      • Canada PNPs That Invite Express Entry Profiles With Low CRS ScoreMonday, 14 November 2022, 9:28 AM EST

One of the ways to obtain permanent residency in Canada is through the provincial nominee programs (PNPs). These programs can also help those looking for permanent residency options from inside or outside Canada. Canada has numerous provincial nominee programs available, each with different eligibility criteria.

While most of the PNPs require applicants to create an expression of interest (EOI) with PNP, but there are certain PNPs that scan active Express Entry profiles (inside or outside Canada profiles) and invite them directly.

Provinces use their provincial nominee programs to fill labour market vacancies specific to the province. It is also why most PNPs seek applicants with in-demand job skills and experience. This article enlists provincial nominee programs that invite applicants directly from the Express Entry pool with low CRS score.

        Ontario Human Capital Priorities Stream

Ontario is Canada’s most popular immigration destination, and many newcomers are attracted to the vibrant city of Toronto and its expanding tech jobs market. The province also has the largest quota for welcoming immigrants through its PNP programs.

Last year in 2021, Ontario nominated 3,513 candidates under the Human Capital Priorities stream. This year (2022), Human Capital Priorities stream has already invited 3,076 Express Entry Profiles. Lowest invited CRS cut off score of invited profiles was 455.

Even though Ontario has one of the largest quotas of any province, Ontario wants to bring in even more immigrants. To address the labour shortage in the province, Ontario’s Labour Minister Monte McNaughton recently asked for a doubling of the number of immigrants permitted under the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) from 9,000 to 18,000 immigrants.

The Ontario Human Capital Priorities stream is an excellent choice for people who reside outside of Canada. This stream prioritizes qualified candidates who can fill skilled job positions in the province.

Ontario PNP Human Capital Priorities stream uses the federal Express Entry system. Candidates must have an active Express Entry profile and a CRS score of 400 or higher. Then, Ontario reviews all Express Entry profiles and invites specific profiles to apply to the PNP, generally based on a group of NOC codes and a specific CRS range.

This stream targets Express Entry profiles with tech occupations and priority occupations.

        Ontario French-Speaking Skilled Workers stream

Another option is through Ontario’s PNP French-Speaking Skilled Workers stream. Again, interested candidates should have a valid Express Entry profile. This program is great for applicants with intermediate to advanced french proficiency.

In 2022, French-Speaking Skilled Workers stream invited 1,379 Express Entry Profiles. Lowest CRS score invited in 2022 was 326 in September 2022.

Since Ontario has large immigration quotas and frequently organizes draws, it is one of the simpler provinces in Canada for qualified applicants to obtain permanent residency.

        Nova Scotia Labour Market Priorities

On Canada’s east coast, by the Atlantic Ocean, is the province of Nova Scotia. Many would-be immigrants find the province their ideal choice because of its proximity to the ocean, affordable cost of living, and relaxed way of life.

Nova Scotia’s Labour Market Priorities stream also chooses candidates directly from the Express Entry pool. This PNP is considered one of the simplest for international applicants to receive PR because it frequently invites profiles without a link to the province.

However, before the draws, Nova Scotia doesn’t disclose its selection criteria, although it frequently extends an invitation to applicants who have no ties to the province. Interested candidates must have an active Express Entry profile and should indicate their interest in the province of Nova Scotia.

Candidates who Nova Scotia invites may secure their chance to obtain a provincial nomination. Successful candidates gain an additional 600 points toward their CRS score because the stream also uses Express Entry. With these extra points, receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) in a federal Express Entry draw is almost guaranteed.

        Alberta’s Express Entry Stream

Some of Canada’s most economically advanced cities, like Calgary and Edmonton, are found in the western province of Alberta. As a result, Alberta is a prominent province for potential immigrants, with a growing job economy and excellent educational institutions.

Candidates are chosen from the federal Express Entry pool to apply for provincial nomination through the Alberta Express Entry stream. One significant advantage of this stream is that they may accept Express Entry candidates with CRS scores as low as 300, which means that more candidates in the pool will be eligible for a Notification of Interest from the province.

It is important to note that an invitation from Alberta’s Express Entry stream require a CRS score of 300 or above. The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program does not disclose the extra targeted criteria; however, it does disclose the CRS score of the lowest-ranking applicant from each round of invites.

Therefore, the following factors could improve a candidate’s chances, but are not mandatory:

        • Holding prior work experience in Alberta
        • Getting a valid job offer from an Alberta employer
        • Having family or relatives in the province who are permanent residents or Canadian citizens
        • Completing an education credential from a Canadian post-secondary institution

The federal Express Entry program is the foundation for Alberta’s Express Entry stream. Therefore, a candidate’s CRS score will rise by 600 points due to receiving a provincial nomination, effectively ensuring they will be offered a PR Invitation to Apply (ITA) in the next Express Entry draw.

        Saskatchewan International Skilled Worker

The province of Saskatchewan, situated in Canada’s prairies, has grown in popularity as an immigrant destination due to its strong economic growth and employment prospects. This province requires creation of Expression of Interest (EOI) and you can apply for SINP even without Express Entry profile.

We included this option as it is one of the most attractive PNP often inviting qualifying applicants with low scores.

Under Saskatchewan’s International Skilled Worker PNP are the Occupation In-Demand and Express Entry streams. These streams intend to attract candidates with experience in the in-demand occupations in the province. Moreover, the International Skilled Worker streams use an Expression of Interest (EOI) system to hand pick candidates.

To submit an Expression of Interest (EOI), candidates must have a minimum of one year of experience in a field that isn’t on the SINP’s Excluded Occupations List. In addition, candidates must have completed post-secondary education for at least one year and have the ability to speak English or French.

Anyone who meets Saskatchewan’s minimal eligibility requirements, including earning at least 60 points on their Points Assessment Grid, is eligible to submit an EOI profile. After submission, the SINP EOI draws will invite candidates with the most competitive SINP scores and those in in-demand occupations.

Moreover, candidates who qualify for Express Entry can apply to the Saskatchewan Express Entry stream to have their application for permanent residency processed more quickly. However, people who cannot submit an Express Entry profile can still apply through the Saskatchewan Occupations In-Demand stream.

            • Getting Married While Canada PR Application Is In ProcessingSaturday, 12 November 2022, 7:50 PM EST

Often Canada immigration applications take months or for certain categories years to process. It may be common for people to experience changes in their lives as they wait. For example, getting married is one of the common changes an applicant experiences as they wait for their application to be processed.

Suppose you are someone whose family composition changed while your permanent residency application was in the process. In that case, you can learn how it will impact your application and the steps you should take.

It is important to remember that IRCC requires you to notify them of any changes to your application, including any information regarding dependant spouses.

In this article, you can learn:

What to do if you get married after applying for Canada PR?

As mentioned earlier, you must inform IRCC of any changes in your family composition, such as getting married and having a spouse. However, you do have the option to either add your spouse as a dependent in your application. Or, apply for your spouse separately (this may require more paperwork).

Nevertheless, you must inform IRCC of the change in your marital status even if your spouse is not accompanying you to Canada.

              You may also like:

Adding your spouse before IRCC processes your application

If your application is in the initial stage and is pending a decision, you can add your spouse. Depending on your application type, you may need to complete the following forms for your spouse.

                Forms to include

                Official documents to include

                • Marriage certificate (in English or French)
                • Updated birth registration or marriage ID (if applicable)
                • Any official document from the place of marriage

Other supporting documents to evidence a genuine relationship

                • Letters from friends and family
                • Photographs of multiple occasions
                • Evidence of cohabitation, like a shared lease
                • Any other document proving your genuine relationship

To add your spouse, you may need to pay application fees for the following:

                • Sponsorship fee: $75
                • Processing fee: $570
                • Biometrics fees: $85
                • Right to permanent resident fee: $515

How to add your spouse after receiving an ITA?

If you received an Invitation to Apply and submitted your application, you could still add your new spouse to your application. First, inform IRCC about the recent change in your marital status. Then IRCC will send you a list of documents required to add your spouse to your application.

How to check your spouse’s immigration status after adding her to your application?

If you added your new spouse to your application and want to check if IRCC has processed your updated information, log in to your “My Account” and view details.

Once you open your account, check if your application lists any dependents. If you notice that no dependents are added to your account, IRCC has not yet processed your spouse’s information.

Additionally, spouses must be eligible for entry to Canada under existing immigration laws, which implies that they must satisfy the security, criminal, and medical requirements. They will be deemed inadmissible to Canada if they fail to meet any of these criteria, which will affect your PR application.

Getting married after your PR application has been approved, but you are yet to enter Canada

If your PR application is approved, but you are outside Canada, ensure that you update your marital status before entering Canada. IRCC may reevaluate your application. However, failure to inform IRCC may be deemed a misrepresentation and can impact your PR and future applications.

Even if your spouse is not accompanying you to Canada, you must inform IRCC of your marital status change before landing in Canada. If you added your spouse, they might review your spouse’s medical and grounds of inadmissibility.

Alternatively, you can sponsor your spouse to bring you to Canada. However, there are different processes for outland and inland spousal application.

                      • Delta Lays Out the Case for Continued Energy

                        Skift Take

Delta, which has turn out to be one of many largest e-commerce retailers, stated it expects see robust journey demand turn out to be a long-lasting pattern for the trade.

The highlight is on Alaska Airways and Hawaiian Airways. However Delta Air Traces had some fascinating issues to say final week as properly.

Chief government Ed Bastian and president Glen Hauenstein delivered a presentation to traders at an occasion in New York Metropolis hosted by Morgan Stanley. Uncommon for an airline, it was an occasion targeted not on transportation corporations and even industrial corporations however fairly client retailers — Delta introduced alongside the likes of Walmart, Starbucks and Krispy Kreme Donuts.

Delta boasted that it’s now the nation’s fifth largest e-commerce retailer behind solely Amazon, Walmart, eBay, and Apple. Half of the airline’s gross sales, it added, are actually bought on to customers fairly than by way of third events like Sabre or Expedia.

What’s extra, Delta clients holding a SkyMiles-branded bank card, issued in tandem with American Categorical, use these playing cards to spend one thing near $280 billion yearly, which is roughly 1% of whole U.S. GDP. Wow.

                        Delta’s Enterprise Outlook

Alright, so Delta made its level about why it belongs at a convention on client spending. However what trade observers actually wish to know is the present state of Delta’s enterprise.

Excellent news on that entrance: It reaffirmed the steerage it gave in mid-October, together with the expectation of an working revenue margin between 9% and 11% for the present quarter. For all of 2023, working margin ought to are available in round 11.5%. That may characterize a pleasant enchancment from the 8% Delta earned in 2022, although a bit down from its 14% determine in 2019 (when its prices, together with labor and gas, had been considerably decrease).

Robust Demand: Bastian and Hauenstein say demand stays rock strong as its focused buyer base — U.S. households incomes not less than $100,000 a 12 months — proceed to prioritize spending on experiences over items.

As Airline Weekly has described earlier than, in the present day’s Delta needs to promote BMWs, extra so than Honda Civics. In different phrases, it’s chasing premium vacationers. Thanksgiving journey delivered file revenues for Delta, and “Christmas is shaping as much as be very, very robust to shut the 12 months,” Bastian stated. After which, “we’re off to the races again in January.”

Company Journey Selecting Up: Even company journey is selecting up following a plateau earlier this fall. The Hollywood strike that affected enterprise journey demand from Los Angeles is now over. Identical for the autoworker strike affecting enterprise demand from Detroit, one in every of Delta’s largest hubs. “We’ve seen a pleasant uptick in company journey year-over-year as we shut out the 12 months and head into ’24,” in response to Bastian.

Executives stated company volumes stay about 10% beneath pre-pandemic ranges, however that is “greater than offset” by “unimaginable development in unmanaged enterprise and small and medium-sized enterprises.”

Those that stated enterprise journey was changing into out of date — Microsoft founder Invoice Gates, most famously — had been merely improper, Bastian insisted. “The factor that they didn’t get was that the videoconferencing instruments, these functions for know-how, simply enhanced mobility. Something that enhances mobility goes to boost the worth of our model, the explanations folks journey.”

Nonetheless Bullish on Worldwide Journey: After a booming summer time, Delta thinks worldwide will stay robust. Transatlantic markets, it stated, “had essentially the most phenomenal summer time ever” and, importantly, “we don’t see that abating.”

“Journey to Europe tends to be seasonally weakest heading into January and February, however superior bookings are robust after which decide up even additional as we head into March and the shoulder season… we’re actually optimistic that we’ll have one other nice run on the transatlantic,” stated Bastian.

It helps, by the best way, that Delta has slowed its capability development to Europe (notice that its transatlantic entity additionally contains flights to Africa, the Center East, and India).

Flights throughout the Pacific, too, are trying robust, supported by Delta’s three way partnership with Korean Air, which facilitates connections to secondary factors all through the area by way of Seoul. Japan, in the meantime, “is doing very properly,” and China additionally delivering “robust outcomes,” although the Chinese language market is simply a couple of tenth the dimensions it was pre-pandemic.

                        Demand Energy Might Be Lasting

Delta believes there’s one thing structural in regards to the demand energy it’s been seeing. It’s not, in one other phrases, only a momentary surge destined to peter out as pent-up journey demand runs its course or because the financial system slows.

There’s been, for instance, “an enormous paradigm shift” in demand for premium seats. For a lot of Delta’s historical past, its “entrance cabins had been our loss leaders. Now our entrance cabins are our revenue facilities.”

Many airways world wide have reported a a lot higher propensity for leisure vacationers shopping for premium seats in the present day, versus pre-pandemic.

Extra typically, general demand is predicted to carry robust primarily based on the historic relationship between journey spend and U.S. GDP. Journey demand needs to be considerably greater than it’s now primarily based on that correlation, which has held agency for the reason that early days of airline deregulation 4 a long time in the past, Bastian defined.

Bastian and Hauenstein spoke in regards to the promise of synthetic intelligence, which Delta is starting to check with its customer support and reservations groups. It’s doing so with its pricing as properly. The chance is “monumental,” Bastian stated. However “it’s in all probability a five-year journey.”

Canada To Start Targeted Draws For Skilled Workers Next YearFriday, 11 November 2022, 8:05 AM EST

To address the severe labour shortages, Canada is prepared to begin targeted Express Entry draws for skilled workers as early as next year, according to Immigration Minister Sean Fraser.

In an interview, the federal immigration minister told Reuters that Canada would begin conducting targeted draws for skilled immigrants next year. It would allow them to handpick candidates with the most in-demand skills for the areas of the country that need workers the most.

Learn about the minister’s latest interview on targeted draws coming next year, IRCC focus and what we know so far.

Conducting targeted draws in early 2023

The current Express Entry system ranks potential economic immigrants according to their language, education, experience and other skills. Those with the highest CRS scores receive an invitation to apply for permanent residency.

With the upcoming changes, Canada can select individuals with particular skills and abilities in specific professions. As well as consider those who plan to move to certain provinces.

We can do a targeted draw beginning in 2023. That will allow us to select workers by the sector that they work in and the part of Canada that they are going to

This means we will be able to bring a greater focus to welcome more healthcare workers … in jurisdictions that will allow them to practice

                    -said Immigration Minister Sean Fraser

                    Focus on healthcare workers

The COVID-19 pandemic and a shortage of nurses are putting excessive stress on Canada’s healthcare system. As a result, many foreign-trained doctors and nurses do not wind up working in their sector. The country has also had difficulty licensing healthcare employees after they arrive.

The healthcare system in Canada is the provinces’ responsibility. Immigration Minister Sean Fraser promised to work with provinces that make recognizing the foreign credentials of doctors and nurses simpler in an interview with Reuters.

He continued by saying that the federal government would work with the provinces to establish a clearer pathway and move forward with targeted draws for the provinces that facilitate the transition.

Further, he explained that he would focus only on provinces that make it simple for health professionals to verify their qualifications from abroad and begin practising as soon as they arrive.

“I’m not interested in conducting a targeted draw for healthcare workers that are going to come to Canada and not be permitted to practice their profession” – Said Fraser

Targeted draws to invite the Federal High Skilled Class category

The federal government increased its immigration targets this week, announcing a three-year goal of 1.45 million new permanent residents. The targeted draws will fall within Canada’s federal “high-skilled” category, representing about 21.1% of new arrivals during that time.

Canada is experiencing a severe labour shortage. According to the most recent data on job openings, there were 1.0 million unemployed persons and 958,500 available positions in Canada in August.

Business organizations have argued that the government should take stronger action on immigration to support businesses facing a historic labour shortage.

As immigration numbers reach historic highs, concerns about where the newcomers will live are increasing. There is already a housing scarcity in Canada.

According to Fraser, the government will emphasize bringing in trained labourers to help create new housing and choosing immigrants for places with the “absorptive capacity” to accept them.

Increased focus on Economic class immigrants

More than 60% of all immigration to Canada is expected to be from the economic class this year.

Canada is already on track to accept 279,292 new permanent residents through economic programs this year, which is about 2.6% or 7,267 new permanent residents more than Ottawa had hoped to achieve through the new immigration levels plan for the next year.

President and CEO of the Business Council of Canada, Goldy Hyder, explains that economic-class permanent residents account for only 58.5 percent of overall admissions in the immigration levels plan announced by the federal government last week.

Of the 309,240 new permanent residents who entered Canada during the first eight months of this year, they arrived under the economic immigration programs making up 60.2% of the total.

If the country adopted the target of 65% for economic immigration set by the Business Council of Canada, 302,250 new permanent residents would enter the country under economic programs out of the country’s total 465,000 in the following year.

Economic immigration, according to the Business Council of Canada, is essential to expanding the Canadian economy.

Every unfilled position represents one less person contributing to the economic prosperity of Canada and one less person paying taxes to maintain Canada’s social infrastructure, says Hyder.

                  • Know Immigration Options For Applicants Awaiting CEC DrawThursday, 10 November 2022, 3:32 PM EST

Immigration Options For Applicants Waiting For CEC-Only Draw. On November 9, the latest Express Entry draw invited 4,750 candidates from all Express Entry programs, including Federal Skilled Worker, Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and Federal Skilled Trades. The cut-off threshold for this draw was 494 CRS points.

As cut-offs continue to stay high for Express Entry, several international students and work permit holders are hoping for Canadian Experience Class-only draws. Although, it remains uncertain whether there will be a CEC-only draw. Or there will be options for international students and work permit holders, as emphasized by Immigration Minister Sean Fraser in his recent report.

Recently, minister Fraser said he is looking for options to give more points to Canadian experience in the Express Entry, but actual details are not finalized yet. However, if you are someone hoping for CEC-only draws, this article will help you understand your options and plan.

                    Understanding the CRS breakdown

The CRS score cut-off in the last two Express Entry draw finally dropped below 500 points. However, given previous trends, the CRS score cut-off will likely stay high for the upcoming draws, given that CRS only dropped by 2 points in the latest draw.

However, no one can accurately predict all upcoming CRS score cut-offs. It is because many distinct factors affect the CRS score cut-off; each factor remains unpredictable and impacts the cut-offs in various ways. These factors are:

Other options for international students and work permit holders

If you are waiting for CRS score cut-offs to lower, you may want to consider some other options. It may be best to wait for the CRS score to reduce, but if you are at risk of becoming out of status, here are 3 options you can consider.

                    1. Applying for PNP

Most often, PNP requires you to have a connection to the province. However, you could consider the following programs that do not require you to have a specific connection to the province, but you may need a job offer. New Immigration levels plan clearly states that provincial nominee programs have target of inviting 105,500 candidates in 2023.

                    Newfoundland and Labrador International Graduate

You could be qualified to apply for a provincial nomination under this program if you’ve completed a post-secondary program of at least two years’ duration anywhere in Canada. Still, you’re now employed in Newfoundland and Labrador. Graduates employed in Newfoundland and Labrador for at least a year on a post-graduate work permit are eligible for the program.

                    B.C International Graduate

This program can be possible if you have completed a post-secondary degree anywhere in Canada and presently hold a job offer from a company in British Columbia. To be eligible, you also need two years of full-time work experience in a similar role to the job offer.

Ontario ONIP Job Offer-International Students stream

You may qualify for this PNP if you have a valid job offer from an Ontario employer and have completed a post-secondary program in Canada. Your Canadian education must have been for a study program that lasted at least two years or a one-year course with a prior necessary degree requirement.

                    2. Getting an LMIA Work Permit

If you have worked for a specific employer for a long time, you may ask them to support you with a LIMA. Although the process may be complex, with a valid job offer, you can get more points under the Comprehensive Ranking System.

There are currently more than 4,400 LMIA approved job postings in Canada. Click here to find LMIA approved jobs.

                    3. Returning to School

Lastly, you may consider returning to school if you are running out of all options and only need to extend your stay until CRS score cut-offs drop. It is an expensive option, but it can definitely prevent you from leaving Canada. It may help you maintain your status and extend your stay in Canada.

                  • More Than 4400 LMIA Approved Jobs In Canada – Here Is How To Find OneThursday, 10 November 2022, 9:44 AM EST

Getting LMIA-approved jobs in Canada can often be difficult as the employer needs to apply for an LMIA and receive a positive response. Moreover, before hiring a Temporary Foreign Worker for a certain occupation, an employer must obtain a positive LMIA.

In general, Service Canada will issue a positive LMIA if an assessment reveals that hiring a temporary foreign worker (TFW) will positively or neutrally impact the Canadian labour market.

However, to dodge the lengthy process of getting an LMIA, you can find LMIA-approved jobs using Canada Job Bank. In addition, you can refer to the list of employers who have applied and received a positive LMIA.

Below are the steps to help you find LMIA-approved jobs on Canada Job Bank and another option to find LMIA-positive employers.

Steps to find LMIA approved jobs using Canada Job Bank

Step 1: Visit the official Canada Job Bank Website, then scroll down to “Temporary Foreign Worker.”

Step 2: Once you land on the Temporary Foreign Worker page, you will find a “search” button with the number of job postings. Click on this search button.

Step 3: After you hit the search button, you can view the number of jobs available and filter through the location, salary, language at work and LMIA status.

Step 4: Within the filter options (on the left), scroll down to “Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) status” and select the check box that says “LMIA approved.”

After following these steps, you will find the list of available jobs that are also LMIA-approved. Then, you can apply online and reach out to employers directly to express your interest or clarify any position query.

How to find LMIA positive employers?

As mentioned earlier, employers need to apply for an LMIA and receive a positive response to hire a foreign national. If they receive a negative response, they will not be able to hire a foreign national.

To avoid job fraud and for interested candidates to access information without paying any fee, Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) publishes a list of employers who requested an LMIA and received a positive response.

ESDC publishes the list of employers who received a positive LMIA each year. So whether you are a temporary foreign worker looking for another employer or someone looking to get a job offer, you can refer to ESDC’s list to find potential employers.

Additionally, this ESDC’s LMIA-positive employer list is divided into two quarters. To view the list, click here

                    • Nova Scotia Needs To reform Immigration System – New Auditor’s ReportWednesday, 9 November 2022, 7:57 PM EST

According to a new auditor general, Kim Adair’s report, Nova Scotia needs to reform immigration system of the province. The government needs to understand better what immigrants need to settle in the province as the province sets out ambitious goals to increase the general population.

In a report released Tuesday (November 8), Kim Adair stated that the government spends $6.4 million annually on immigrant settlement assistance without understanding whether the money helps prevent them from leaving.

Below are report highlights and findings, in addition to the suggestions made by the auditor general.

More work is needed to meet Nova Scotia’s immigration target

Adair explains that the current retention rate of 70% must be increased to 75%, which would require an increase in yearly population growth of more than twofold, to 25,000 people, from the current 10,000.

The auditor general’s recommendations, such as looking at how settlement financing may best fulfill immigrant needs, are being worked on, according to immigration minister Jill Balser. As more and more newcomers settle in Nova Scotia, Balser said, the services must be flexible and adaptive to serve individual needs constantly.

She added that her agency is also creating two new roles to handle fraud investigations and program compliance checks, introducing 12 new positions to process immigration applications more consistently.

In 2021, Nova Scotia welcomed a record 9,160 immigrants; as of August of this year, that total had already surpassed 9,375 persons.

Lack of evaluation by immigration Department of immigrant required services

Adair claimed that the Immigration Department had not evaluated the kinds of services required to help immigrants settle in Nova Scotia, adding that the government puts an undue reliance on information obtained from outside sources.

Adair’s report stated that it is very difficult to identify what settlement services are required, which service providers should receive money, and whether any gaps exist without a detailed assessment to evaluate the requirements of immigrants.

The auditor general said that 18 immigrant settlement companies are currently working in the province, offering services such as language training, employment counselling, and community welcoming initiatives. However, Adair claimed that the government had not thoroughly examined the services given, their locations, or the demand for them.

For instance, according to the report, evaluating whether language training is offered across the province or figuring out whether there is a greater need for particular settlement services in some places than others.

The importance of feedback from immigrants

Adair emphasized feedback from immigrants could help determine where future funding should be directed. In addition, the province has to identify labour market gaps for effective spending to match newcomers to jobs.

While speaking to reporters in an interview, Adair said her department recommended that rather than just being reactionary, a framework should be in place. It would help the government get on top of the issues since it takes time to shift their focused efforts to particular gaps in the labour force.

Additionally, she said that her audit uncovered inconsistencies in how the province evaluates immigration petitions, leaving the system vulnerable to fraud.

Furthermore, Adair noted that the province intends to increase its population to two million by 2060, requiring improvements in such areas.

IRCC changed their online processing tool in the beginning of 2022, to offer accurate information on processing timelines. Immigration Minister Sean Fraser announced this modification on March 31, 2022, as part of an effort to improve Canadian immigration system. This page contains the latest processing times from the IRCC website as of November 9, 2022.

What Updates Does the Processing Time Include

IRCC bases processing time on the time it took to process prior similar applications. The processing period begins when the application is received by IRCC and concludes when the immigration officer makes a decision on the application. Furthermore, the processing time may differ depending on whether the application was filed on paper or online.

These processing times are designed to offer new weekly timelines from the preceding 6 months’ data. Furthermore, it correlates the application volume with operational issues to assist future immigrants in better planning their journey.

                          • New TEER System Implements Next Week – All You Need To KnowWednesday, 9 November 2022, 9:29 AM EST

On November 16, next week, IRCC will implement the new National Occupation Classification (NOC) 2021, the Training, Education, Experience, and Responsibilities (TEER) system. With this implementation, several changes are coming to the Express Entry system.

These changes will impact Express Entry eligibility. For example, 16 NOC C occupations will become eligible for Express Entry. Additionally, it will also be implemented by all the provincial nominee programs (PNPs). For e.g., 12 NOC codes will become ineligible for the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP)

Another change is in the eligibility criteria of the Express Entry. As with NOC 2016 system, an applicant needed to have skilled experience, such as in NOC 0, A or B, to qualify for Express Entry. Next week, with the implementation of NOC 2021, the eligibility criteria for Express Entry will change.

In this article, you can learn about the upcoming changes in the Express Entry system with the implementation of the new NOC c or the TEER system.

What is the new NOC 2021 and the TEER system?

Canada uses NOC, National Occupation Classification, as a national standard for identifying occupations. After every ten years, the Canadian federal government updates NOC to reflect the country’s labour and economic market changes.

The old 4-digit “Skill Level” structure will be replaced by the NOC 2021. To illustrate the level of Training, Education, Experience and Responsibilities (TEER) required for a given occupation, new NOC categories are introduced. These new categories include a brand-new five-digit hierarchical structure.

Understanding NOC 2021 categorisation and the TEER system

Overview of the new TEER categories

TEER 0: This category includes legislative and senior management occupations with significant experience and knowledge and handles responsibility for directing, resource planning and management.

Additionally, if you were issued an ITA before November 16, 2022, you must continue to use the NOC 2016 system exclusively.

For the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), and Federal Skilled Trades Program, IRCC has provided updated NOC 2021 eligibility criteria for Express Entry. To understand eligibility after November 16, see the tables below.

The first thing that you should do is complete your profile. Having a complete profile shows that you are professional. Also, it makes you more visible to recruiters. Your LinkedIn profile speaks for you to all potential employers. So, make sure that you have a photo, and a generic summary and highlight all your skills, projects, interests, and certifications in relevant sections.

                                2. Use a professional headshot

Having a professional photo is very important while optimizing your LinkedIn profile. Your picture should not have a distracting background. Avoid any grainy or low-quality images. Also, try to feature your face in the majority of your frame. Lastly, make sure to have a smile and a friendly expression.

                                3. Have a compelling headline

Your headline is a great opportunity to show who you are. It should be more than just what you do. You should try to showcase why you are unique. Include details that a recruiter will care about. Moreover, using keywords in your headline can improve your rankings as well as your visibility.

                                4. Have an engaging professional summary

Your summary section in the profile is a perfect place to tell about you and your professional brand. You should mention your top skills and qualities. Include three to five sentences about your experience. Also, you should mention your future goals. Lastly, include ways by which other professionals can engage with you.

                                5. Focus on your profile SEO

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is an important component of your LinkedIn profile. You should try to add relevant keywords in your field to your profile. Try to add backlinks to your profile from other websites. This can include job portals and social networking platforms. Lastly, try to publish posts on Instagram. This will bring more people to your platform. Thus, your chances of hiring will increase.

                                6. Get Recommendations

Recommendations on LinkedIn are like references from people in your network. You should request these from your current or former managers. Also, you can ask your colleagues too. This not only boosts your profile but also builds trust and authoritativeness. You can think of recommendations like reviews on your profile. Recruiters are able to make informed decisions based on these recommendations.

                                7. Build your network

The main purpose of LinkedIn is to build your network. So, you should connect with like-minded people. Don’t hesitate to message professionals, employers, recruiters, entrepreneurs, and others in your industry. This will help you get noticed by other professionals. This in turn will help you build a solid relationship. Some of your connections might in turn recommend you for jobs that they know are hiring.

                                      Ineligibility for BOWP

In certain circumstances, foreign nationals may not qualify for a BOWP. These circumstances include:

                                      •  Foreign nationals in Canada who are exempt from the work permit requirement
                                      • Those applying for a BOWP at the port of entry or visa office may be ineligible because they do not have the authorization (yet) to enter as a temporary resident.
                                        • The fact that applicants are physically in Canada and working while transitioning to permanent residence provides a considerable advantage.
                                      • Spouses and dependents of primary permanent residence applicants as this group can obtain work permits under various LMIA exemption categories.

Officers may make individual assessments of foreign nationals who do not fit the requirements using the more general LMIA exemption.

                                      Required Documentary Evidence

To evidence eligibility, you must include the following in your BOWP application:

                                      • Pay for the work permit processing fee, the open work permit holder fee, and, if applicable, the restoration fee.
                                      • Provide evidence that you meet the APR (Application for permanent residence) stage corresponding to your permanent residence class and application submission
                                        • Applicants of the following class receive an approval in principle letter or eligibility letter after obtaining a positive eligibility assessment on their APR. They must provide a copy of this letter with their BOWP application, and these applicants are from the following class:
                                          • Agri-Food Pilot Program applicants
                                          • The caring for children class

                                      How to apply?

You can apply for a BOWP online using the IRCC tool. The tool will ask you questions about your status, and depending on the category you apply under, it will create a personalized checklist.

Ensure that you select the following when you apply:

                                      • When selecting the work permit type, select “Open work permit.”
                                      • Make the payments for the following:
                                        • Work permit fee: CAD 155
                                        • Open work permit holder fee: CAD 100

After you submit your application, you will receive a letter that proves that you can continue working under the same conditions as your current work permit. However, if you applied to your PGWP, you may not receive this letter.

                                        • IRCC Acknowledgment of Receipt (AOR) – All You Need To KnowSaturday, 5 November 2022, 1:46 PM EDT

An official document known as an Acknowledgment of Receipt (AOR) proves that Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has received your immigration application.

IRCC issues an AOR document after you submit an application and the processing time officially begins from the date of AOR. The document’s importance varies based on the application filed and how it is submitted.

                                          This article delves into:

When do you receive an AOR?

Depending on the kind of application, IRCC could release an AOR at different times. One such instance is the automated generation of an AOR for Express Entry, which often occurs minutes after the permanent residence application is filed.

Contrarily, the AOR for a citizenship or sponsorship application may take weeks or even months.

What does receiving an AOR indicate?

The AOR is a receipt that confirms that IRCC received your application. However, the date of the AOR is important if the factors below apply to you.

The age of your dependent children: Only children who match the description of a dependent child may be added to your application. Except in certain circumstances, a dependent child must be unmarried and under 22. Your child must satisfy this requirement by the date IRCC receives your application, as stated on your AOR.

Validity of your document: The validity of some documents, including police records, IELTS test scores, and ECA reports, is limited. Therefore, when your application is received, these documents must be current and valid on the date stated on the AOR. For this reason, ensure that you apply before your documents expire.

Does AOR indicate your application is complete?

Obtaining an AOR does not always imply that your application is completed or incomplete. It all depends on the kind of application you filed. For instance, IRCC automatically gives an AOR to Express Entry applicants, but they might reject the application if certain papers are missing.

The IRCC has verified that the application is complete if you receive an AOR after filing a citizenship application.

The difference in applying via paper or online

When IRCC receives your application, they send you a confirmation as an AOR. As a result, the AOR date for a paper-based application will be the day the IRCC mailroom receives your application package.

Once they begin processing your application, they will send the AOR. To monitor your application and get a confirmation when it arrives, it is crucial to utilize a courier service that demands a signature when delivering it.

The AOR date for an electronic application submission usually coincides with the day you click the submit button. However, due to clerical errors or time zone variances, the date on your AOR may occasionally show to be one or two days later. It is a good idea to submit in advance because of this reason.

How soon after receiving AOR do you get decision?

The IRCC may not have even begun processing your application when you get the AOR. Receiving an AOR does not essentially mean that IRCC has started processing your application.

AOR is just an acknowledgement by IRCC that they have officially received your application. Therefore, the time it takes to receive PR after receiving your AOR may vary depending on the program you applied for.

Certain applicants start comparing or expecting the decision on their application based on consensus mentioned over the various online forums after receiving the AOR. However, that is not the case. IRCC processing is random and certain applications may take longer than others.

For more information, visit IRCC’s official page.

In addition, employment increased among men and women between the ages of 25 and 54 in October. On the other hand, men and women aged 15 to 24 and those aged 55 and up showed minimal change.

Generally, employment increased in six provinces, with the most significant increases in Ontario and Quebec. Regarding wages, employee hourly wage growth stayed above 5 per cent for the fifth consecutive month in October, increasing 5.6% (+$1.68 to $31.94) compared to October 2021.

Following a 0.6 per cent decrease in September, total hours worked increased by 0.7 per cent in October. However, the total hours worked increased by 2.2% compared to October 2021.

About two-thirds of employees with wages more than $40.00 per hour had received a raise in the past year, compared to half (50.1%) of those with wages less than $20.00 per hour (population aged 15 to 69; not seasonally adjusted).

Additionally, over one-third (35.3%) of Canadians aged 15 and older lived in homes that reported trouble meeting financial needs in October, up from one-fifth in October 2020. Lastly, more than 1.7 million Canadians had hybrid work arrangements in October for those aged 15 to 69.

Industries with a significant change in employment

Employment in construction increased by 25,000 (+1.6%) in October, with increases in five provinces, including Quebec (+17,000; +5.9%) and British Columbia (+6,000; +2.5%).

Despite this growth, construction employment remained almost unchanged in October compared to March 2022, consistent with the latest GDP data showing slowing economic activity in the industry during a similar time.

Moreover, employment in the manufacturing industry increased by 24,000 (+1.4%), offsetting the 28,000 (-1.6%) decrease recorded in September. British Columbia (+12,000; +6.9%) and Nova Scotia (+3,700; +11.6%) accounted for most of the increase. Manufacturing employment remained relatively unchanged on a year-over-year basis.

Accommodation and food service employment increased by 18,000 (+1.7%) in October, the first growth in the industry since May. However, according to the most recent Job Vacancy and Wage Survey data, the industry had a more significant job vacancy rate in August than all other industries.

Employment in professional, scientific, and technical services increased by 18,000 (+1.0%) in October, the third increase in six months. Since June 2020, the number of people working in the industry has been steadily increasing, and in October, it was 297,000 (+19.3%), higher than before the pandemic.

Moreover, there was also employment growth in “other” services (+18,000; +2.4%) and public administration (+15,000; +1.3%) in October.

In October, the number of individuals employed in wholesale and retail trade decreased by 20,000 (-0.7%). The industry’s employment last rose in May and was a little changed year over year in October. While retail sales grew 0.7% to $61.8 billion in August, advance estimates indicate that sales may fall 0.5% in September.

After three months of minimal change, natural resource employment fell (-6,800; -2.0%) in October, nearly entirely attributable to a dip in Quebec (-6,100; -13.2%).

Other employment trends for October 2022

In the last year, hybrid employment—the ability to work part-time from home and part-time from a location other than home—has emerged as a viable alternative for employers and employees.

In October, nearly one in ten (9.0%; 1,746,000) workers reported working both at home and elsewhere, up 0.4 percentage points from September and 5.4 percentage points from January 2022.

Also, in October, 15.8% of workers worked exclusively from home, an 8.5 percentage point decrease from the beginning of the year (population aged 15 to 69).

The average hourly wages were 5.6% higher (+$1.68 to $31.94) than the previous year (not seasonally adjusted) in October. However, even though average wages have increased by more than 5% year on year in the last five months, they have not kept up with inflation, which was 6.9% in September, contributing to many Canadians’ concerns about affordability and the cost of living.

The proportion of employees who received a raise after being with the same company for at least a year was among the lowest in agriculture (47.2%) and accommodation and food services (49.7%), two areas with average hourly wages below the national average.

In health care and social assistance (53.6%) and educational services (50.3%), where the majority of employees are unionized, the proportion of employees who received a rise was similarly relatively low.

In contrast, the proportion of employees who had received a rise was among the greatest in manufacturing (67.7%), finance, insurance, real estate, rental and leasing (68.2%), and professional, scientific and technical services (68.4%), three sectors where unionization is often low.

Employment in Canada hit a record high in May, and during the summer, there were record numbers of job openings and record-low unemployment rates in the country’s labour market.

Consumer inflation in the headlines reached levels not seen in nearly 40 years during the late spring and summer months. In recent times, employment also fell or was flat for four months before increasing in October.

                                        • Seasonal Jobs In Canada Surge By 28% – New Indeed ReportFriday, 4 November 2022, 9:59 AM EDT

Indeed’s holiday jobs hiring trends report, published on Wednesday, shows that seasonal job posts for this winter are up 28% from last year and 40% above the levels in 2019. While the percentage of job seekers looking for seasonal work is up 25% from last year, it is still slightly below pre-pandemic levels.

According to a recent Indeed study, employers may find it more difficult to find temporary workers during the upcoming holiday season due to the increase in job postings compared to before the pandemic.

The survey stated that while hiring will likely increase generally over the holiday season (November 2022 – January 2023), certain businesses may have trouble filling positions due to increased demand for seasonal workers and job seeker interest.

Possible solutions to finding seasonal workers

Indeed’s Senior Economist Brendon Bernard says the seasonal hiring trend is similar to the rest of the labour market. Employers have reported difficulty filling positions across the sector, and this season, he predicted, will be no different.

Bernard says employers may need to change compensation to attract new hires or provide flexible schedules.

Nevertheless, he believes it would be challenging to fill certain posts for some specific organizations. He suggests that the question employers must ask themselves is, what are they doing to set themselves apart?

Moreover, Indeed says that holiday season hiring typically begins in September, but positions for holiday jobs have accelerated early this year.

                                          Holiday-season-2022 jobs

                                          The aftermath of the pandemic

After two years of slowed recruiting due to the pandemic, it is a strong turnaround, says Bernard. There has been a little more return to normal this year, says Bernad. However, he said it’s likely that employers are getting ready for an expected increase in foot traffic.

Indeed report shows that the market’s overall share of seasonal employment is 1.3 per cent, higher than in 2021 but not nearly at pre-pandemic levels. In 2022, Canada’s overall job postings will have reached record highs, indicating a more competitive employment market, particularly in some industries.

Further, seasonal employment for customer service agents and sales associates is concentrated in the retail sector. Indeed data shows that customer-facing retail jobs make up half of this year’s seasonal postings.

                                          Other Expert Opinion

Michelle Wasylyshen, the spokesperson for the Retail Council of Canada, says the labour shortage is a persistent problem in retail.

She explained that retailers are anxious about their ability to ramp up staffing numbers with the approaching Christmas shopping season and significant shopping occasions like Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Boxing Day.

There has been a decrease in the pool of part-time workers, which Wasylyshen says is one factor causing the retail labour crisis. Throughout the pandemic, “fewer seniors and young people returned to the workplace,” she said.

If retailers cannot meet their employment needs, they may need to cut hours or take other corrective measures to increase compensation to attract workers, she added.

Most international students work throughout their college/university to help cover some of their expenses. Moreover, it also helps them get Canadian experience. As an international student, you can now work more than 20 hours per week, effective November 15, 2022.

This is excellent opportunity for international students as it means that they can now earn more money. However, finding a job under a study permit can sometimes get difficult. But don’t worry, we have got you covered.

5 Things International Students Looking for Job Should Know!

                                          1. Understand your study permit

As an international student, you need a study permit to study in Canada. You get this at port of entry when you arrive in Canada for the first time. The permit lists all the information about your working conditions in Canada. You can work under a study permit if you-

Once you meet all of the requirements, there are two types of work you should know about:

                                          • On-Campus Jobs: You can work as many hours as possible, as long as they are not interfering with your school time.
                                          • Off-Campus Jobs: You could work a maximum of 20 hours a week in the past, but the cap has now been temporarily lifted from November 15 till the end of 2023

                                          2. Make full use of school services

All schools and colleges/universities offer International Student Support services. Make sure to check them out. These services help you with building your resume and cover letter. Also, they help you understand your ability to work on/off campus.

They can also help you build connections with other students. This can make it easier to make friends. Even if you have any questions about job hunting, student services can help with it.

                                          3. Networking Is The Key

One of the most important things you should do while job hunting is network. Networking helps you find better job opportunities and develop lasting relations. There are different ways to do this. Firstly, you can search online for networking events happening in your industry.

You can also speak to your friends, professors, or relatives to see if they could connect you to any valuable contacts. Though this sounds daunting, once you start doing it, you will realize it’s pretty easy to network here. You might get in touch with someone who is looking to fill a role that you might be interested in. Find more ways to network here

                                          4. Volunteer

Another thing that you should do, as a student is, volunteer. This not only helps to expand your network but also looks good on your resume. Moreover, you can gain many valuable skills while volunteering.

You learn a lot about Canadian corporate culture. You can volunteer at a student association, a campus club, an off-campus festival, and so on. Though volunteering may sound discouraging at first, it is definitely worth it.

                                          5. Avoid any kind of “cash” jobs

A lot of times employers lure you into jobs that are underpaid. They tell you that they are paying you “by experience”. In most of these cases, the salary is below minimum wage. Also, the employer will pay you via cash, money order, or cheque. Such jobs are called “cash jobs” or under-table-job.

Never say yes to such kinds of jobs. In such jobs, there is no legal contract present. So, your labor rights can be violated. Also, your study permit status can be in legal trouble. Though finding a job in the initial days might be a little difficult, but wait for the correct job.

In the beginning of 2022, IRCC changed their online processing tool to offer accurate information on processing timelines. This modification was announced by Immigration Minister Sean Fraser on March 31, 2022, as part of an effort to improve Canada’s immigration system. This page contains the most recent processing timeframes from the IRCC website as of November 3, 2022.

What Updates Does the Processing Time Include

These processing times are designed to offer new weekly timelines from the preceding 6 months’ data. Furthermore, it correlates the application volume with operational issues to assist future immigrants in better planning their journey.

IRCC bases processing time on the time it took to process prior similar applications. The processing period begins when the application is received by IRCC and concludes when the immigration officer makes a decision on the application. Furthermore, the processing time may differ depending on whether the application was filed on paper or online.

If you have a Canadian parent and need to prove Canadian citizenship, you need to have a citizenship certificate. A citizenship certificate is an important document that proves your Canadian citizenship.

You can get this certificate if you were born outside Canada but at least one of your biological or legal parents was already a Canadian citizen when you were born. However, if you were born in Canada you do not need one. This is because your birth certificate will act as proof of citizenship.

A Canadian citizenship certificate assures that you have the same rights and privileges as other citizens. Also, you can use it to access various services and benefits. Examples of this would be applying for a pension or a passport.

How to apply for proof of Canadian citizenship?

To get proof of your Canadian citizenship, you need to follow a government process. You have to submit an application. Listed below are the steps you need to follow –

                                          • Firstly you need to get an application package. This package has all the instructions, forms, and document checklists. You need to fill out all the forms. Make sure to include all documents listed in the checklist. Also, if your documents aren’t in English or French, you need to send a translation of the documents. Moreover, you need to include a sworn statement (affidavit) from the person who did the translation
                                          • The next step is to pay the application fees. You can pay your fees online. The method of payment depends on where you’re applying from. Also, if you are submitting more than one application you can pay all the fees together. Please note that no refunds will be made once the application starts processing.
                                          • Lastly, you need to submit the application. Make sure that all the information requested is attached and accurate.

You can also apply online to get proof of citizenship.

Along with your form, you will need proof that your parent was a Canadian citizen when you were born. This proof can be in the form of a birth certificate or a Canadian citizenship card. It can also be your parent’s citizenship certificate. You may also need your birth certificate and proof of identity.

There is no time/age limit to apply for this. You can apply even if your Canadian parent is deceased. However, you should be able to prove that they were Canadian at the time of your birth.

                                          Processing times

Currently, the processing time for proof of citizenship certificates is 17 months. This is after receiving a complete application. Also, processing times may be more if you are applying from outside Canada and US.

                                        • Job Experience Letter For Canada – Know Full Details To IncludeWednesday, 2 November 2022, 5:12 PM EDT

Job reference letters are an essential part of your permanent residency application. Whether you apply through Express Entry, PNP or come on a work permit, you will need an employer reference letter to evidence your previous work experience.

Moreover, there are certain Canadian immigration specifications that your letter needs to match if you want to claim points for your work experience in the Express Entry system. In this article, you will learn about the details your reference letter should include, along with common mistakes and alternatives to reference letters.

Details to include in a job reference letter

For IRCC to verify your employment history, your employer reference letter should include the following information.

                                          • Company information, including company name and address
                                          • Printed on the company’s official letterhead
                                          • Your Full name
                                          • All positions held while employed
                                          • Supervisor name, position and contact details
                                          • Main duties of all positions
                                          • Duration and dates of each held position
                                          • Annual salary
                                          • Employment duration
                                          • The number of hours worked each week
                                          • Dates you worked at the company

Common mistakes on job reference letters

One of the most common mistakes is when your reference letters do not include your main duties. While evaluating your application, IRCC uses your NOC’s description and duties you assess your application.

Therefore, to ensure that you get points for your experience, check if your reference letter includes your main duties, which align with your NOC’s description and main duties. Additionally, if you have a new job offer while your permanent residency application is processing, make sure that you update your profile according to the new job offer.

Another critical point to remember is that from November 16, IRCC will implement the use of the new NOC 2021 to assess all applications.

Alternatives to the employment reference letter

A job reference letter is the most suitable evidence you can provide to claim points. However, in circumstances where the company is no longer operating or your point of contact is not with the company anymore, there are certain alternatives you can consider.

The following is alternative evidence that may help your application:

                                          • Pay stubs
                                          • Tax forms
                                          • Offer of employment
                                          • Personal letters from co-workers
                                          • Bank statements with pay deposits
                                          • Any media references with your name on the company can include social media posts welcoming you as a new hire
                                          • Affidavit from your former supervisor or co-worker, including their official ID and business cards
                                          • Include a letter explaining why you could not get a job reference letter.

Lastly, include any evidence you think will help strengthen your application if you are missing a job reference letter. Remember to refer to the new NOC 2021 while you self-assess your application.

                                        • Reasons That Put IRCC Application In “Review Required” DelayTuesday, 1 November 2022, 4:49 PM EDT

As IRCC backlog continues to grow out of control, there are a few things you could do as an applicant to prevent your application from being stuck in the “Review Required” phase.

Ordering Global Case Management System notes is one of the common practices to know the status or details of your application. You can get the notes by accessing information requests to IRCC via mail or online. The notes provide an overview of the processing details of your immigration/visa application.

Candidates can view specifics of the IRCC’s case evaluation through these notes. The evaluation looks at eligibility, local or international human rights violations, medical issues, criminal activity, etc.

These notes sometimes reflect a “review required” flag. The phrase “review required” theoretically enables a junior IRCC analyst to draw the attention of a more senior visa officer to a specific problem and seek action, such as rejecting the application or requesting more supporting documentation.

However, in reality, it just means that when the IRCC slowly attempts to clear its application backlog, your file is more likely to get trapped at the bottom of the stack. Unfortunately, as a result, anything that requires more thought or extra effort is delegated lower on the list of priorities and frequently set aside for review at later time.

The issue for the IRCC is that visa officers are overwhelmed by a volume of applications, frequently leaving no one with the capacity to handle the more complex “review required” applications.

Three reasons why your application may receive a “review required” flag

                                          Lack of sufficient funds

Candidates must demonstrate they have the financial resources necessary to settle in Canada to be considered for one of the permanent residence streams. If IRCC staff believe that fluctuations in foreign exchange rates have reduced an applicant’s cash holdings below the Canadian dollar threshold, they may flag the file for review.

Another reason may include providing incorrect supporting documents, such as non-liquid assets like bonds or real estate, to satisfy the criteria.

Typically, the applicant will receive a notice and an opportunity to respond to a procedural fairness letter when currency fluctuations arise. Failure to meet the proof of funds requirements and response to the letter may result in the application’s rejection.

When you first notice a “review required” flag, it is best to take proactive steps to resolve it as soon as possible rather than waiting for IRCC to reach out. Depending on the category that received the review required tag, you should provide updated or more information to IRCC.

For example, if proof of funds is an issue, you should present updated bank statements proving your financial stability, preferably with enough extra funds to cover future currency fluctuations.

                                          Employment history

Visa officers may flag the file for review if they believe your work experience is not verifiable or if there is a discrepancy between the employment confirmation documents and the qualifying NOC description.

In addition, a skilled worker’s eligibility is correlated with employment offers in specific National Occupation Classification (NOC) jobs. To prevent the problem, ensure that you provide additional evidence or a sworn declaration outlining the probable problem.

Foreign nationals may be inadmissible to enter Canada for various reasons, such as past criminal activity abroad or domestically, health concerns, or application fraud.

When a person has previously been denied entry to Canada or any other country, IRCC officials frequently demand a review to determine whether the denial raises new concerns about their current admissibility.

Hence, revealing prior visa denials or immigration problems is crucial. However, not revealing may be viewed as a misrepresentation that could make you inadmissible to Canada for five years.

Additionally, even if you provided more information after receiving the dreaded notification that a review is required, your file would probably still be at the bottom of the list. Therefore, ensure that you reveal all past visa rejections and entry denial along with a proper explanation to avoid getting flagged.

                                        • 7 Best Cities In Canada For New Immigrants To Move In!Monday, 31 October 2022, 2:13 PM EDT

Whether you are a new immigrant in Canada or someone already in Canada looking to move, below is the list of 7 immigrant-friendly cities you can move to with good quality of life.

List of 7 Best Cities For New Immigrants

                                          1. Ottawa

The city of Ottawa is a favourite with immigrants. The city constantly receives high marks for life quality and cleanliness and is often seen as one of the nicest places to live in the world.

Ottawa is a vibrant, young city with beautiful architecture, a thriving city centre, and picturesque neighbourhoods because of its cultural diversity. Enormous young people are drawn to the city by its two universities, the University of Ottawa and Carleton University.

The city is home to just under 1 million people, but new investment and Canada’s immigration drive forecasts to increase population by 3% over the next three years. Another advantage is that Ottawa is incredibly green and clean. There are many options for an active outdoor lifestyle, and it is bike-friendly.

There are various trails, walkways, running tracks, and bike lanes along the magnificent Rideau Canal that runs through the city. Moreover, the canal freezes over in the winter and turns into the longest ice skating rink in the world.

The city of Ottawa experiences four distinct seasons, which offer a change of scenery throughout the year. The city’s winters are chilly and dazzlingly bright, and many winter activities are available. Conversely, summers can be fairly hot and muggy.

Ottawa offers many services in French and English because the city is officially bilingual. While knowing French is helpful, English is widely spoken. You don’t need to be bilingual to lead a happy life there, but learning French may help you integrate quickly or land a specific job.

Despite being higher than average, Ottawa’s cost of living is still very reasonable. Apartments can be rented between CAN $700 and 1400 per month, depending on your desired area. However, eating out and buying groceries can be expensive, mainly if they are imported. Although incomes are higher than usual, Ottawa’s unemployment rate of 5.3% is one of the lowest.

Retail salespeople, computer programmers, and interactive media creators are among the top professions. In addition, information systems analysts and consultants are also in high demand.

The federal government of Canada is headquartered in Ottawa, which also has significant municipal and provincial government employees. In Ottawa, the public sector employs about 20% of the labour force. Natural and applied sciences, as well as fields related to them and occupations in education, law, and community, experienced the fastest employment growth.

                                          2. Burlington

Burlington, close to Toronto, is the ideal location for people who desire to live in a big city close to nature and the great outdoors. It is located at the southwestern edge of Lake Ontario. Burlington preserves more than 580 hectares of parkland and has an excellent quality of life.

Many schools, universities, and healthcare services are available to residents, making for a decent quality of life. In addition, Burlington offers wonderful and varied options, from the 115 parks spread around the city to the museums to the numerous annual festivals locals participate in.

The average home in Burlington costs approximately $500,000, four and a half times the average income. As a result, Burlington is one of the more expensive cities. However, this city gets top grades for its low unemployment, lovely weather, minimal crime, high earnings, and excellent transit.

The city’s diverse economic basis contributes to its economic stability and guarantees that work opportunities are consistently available across many sectors.

Any one industry or employer does not dominate the economy of Burlington. Nevertheless, it’s not difficult to find work in Burlington, and the city’s low unemployment rate can be attributed to the diverse economy of the affluent Golden Horseshoe region.

The commuter train between downtown Burlington and central Burlington makes it simple to reach Toronto from Burlington. The commute by rail lasts one hour. So many professionals decide to commute daily from Burlington to Toronto for business.

                                          3. Oakville

Oakville, a charming suburban community in southern Ontario, is particularly proud of its excellent location in Halton Region on Lake Ontario, which provides residents with simple access to Toronto’s metropolitan centre and natural wonders on the one hand.

Toronto’s downtown is only 30 minutes away by car from Oakville, and it takes an hour to get to Niagara Falls and the US border. Because of its exceptional catering for families and kids, it deserves to be included on the list of Canada’s greatest places to live.

                                          Oakville Canada

There is no shortage of things to do for those who enjoy the arts, culture, and music. These include performances at the nearby Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts, trips to museums and galleries, and fantastic festivals like the annual Waterfront Festival, Festival of Classics, and Jazz Festival in Oakville.

There are many leisure options in the neighbourhood. For example, seven golf courses are available for play, including the PGA-recognized Glen Abbey Golf Course, which has frequently hosted the Canadian Open.

Over 2,400 acres of parkland contain many well-maintained hiking routes. In addition, two beautiful harbours and boating options are available in Oakville for boaters. With manufacturing facilities run by UTC Aerospace Systems and General Electric, as well as Siemens and The Ford Motor Company’s Canadian offices based in Oakville, jobs are simple to get.

Oakville is a popular location for life science businesses, primarily focusing on pharmaceuticals and eldercare. However, like Burlington, Oakville is a suburb of Toronto, and many locals travel to Toronto for work, where there are numerous and varied career options.

                                          4. St. Albert

For several years running, St. Albert, Alberta, has been moving up the list of the greatest provinces in Canada. More Canadians and foreigners are moving to Alberta because of its robust economy and well-paying jobs as people realize that the province offers more than simply oil.

It includes all the conveniences, including parks and facilities to support a healthy lifestyle, schools, health care, and recreational options. More than 85 km of bike routes run alongside the Sturgeon River in St. Albert. There are also plenty of outdoor rinks. A 55,000-person annual International Children’s Festival is held there as well.

                                          St Albert

Although the country’s winters can be brutal (with an average of 28 days per year with a minimum temperature below -20 C), there is still plenty of sunshine all year round, and crime rates are progressively declining. St. Albert is a popular location for people who prefer a slower pace of life because it is only 30 kilometres from Edmonton, the regional capital.

Edmonton commuting services are convenient through the St. Albert Transit system. St. Albert may be a better option if living in Edmonton doesn’t appeal to you, but your employer is there. With most residents travelling to Edmonton for work, St. Albert has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the nation (4.3%) and some of the highest earnings.

St. Albert can’t completely avoid the trend in the area even though it has a considerably smaller exposure to the oil and gas business. Petrochemicals are the most significant industry in Edmonton’s nearby oil and gas hub.

Oil and natural gas are abundant in the area, earning Edmonton the moniker “Oil Capital of Canada.” Many St. Albert people commute to Edmonton to work in the oil industry. However, there are numerous different career fields available in the region. For example, information technology, banking, and biotechnology all offer opportunities.

                                          5. Boucherville

With a population of about 43,000, Boucherville is one of the oldest municipalities in Québec. The city’s unemployment rate is an exceptionally low 2.88 percent, and the typical household income is $92,253.

Boucherville’s proximity to Montreal and rapid population expansion, along with its bike-friendly streets and vibrant arts and sports scene, make it particularly appealing to foreign residents.

In Boucherville, the outdoors is undoubtedly an important aspect. One of the most incredible parks in Canada is the Iles-de-Boucherville National Park, which offers activities like sea kayaking, snow hiking, volleyball on sand, riding, and wildlife viewing.

                                          Boucherville Canada

It’s the ideal place for a family who enjoys golf, the outdoors, and scenic views but yet needs access to a big city’s facilities. Most people in Boucherville speak French; about 2% of the population can speak English fluently. About 90% of the population speaks French. Therefore, if you wish to relocate to Boucherville, understanding French is a need.

Bilingual people have higher employment prospects from an employment standpoint. The city generally has a low unemployment rate, and personnel acquire top salaries. Boucherville’s commercial park is domestic to around 575 agencies, presenting employment to 23 000 people.

Given that Montreal, Canada’s second-largest city, is only 18 kilometres from Boucherville, many Boucherville inhabitants commute to Montreal for work. Montreal’s typical industries are aerospace, software, electronics, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, and transportation.

Over 40,000 people are employed in Quebec’s aerospace industry, which includes firms like Bell Helicopter Textron, Bombardier Aerospace, Pratt & Whitney, Rolls-Royce, and CAE. The city is one of North America’s main aerospace hubs.

                                          6. Vancouver

It’s not surprising that Vancouver consistently ranks as one of the best cities in the world to live in. The city has it all: mountains, beaches, islands, a coastline, an urban core, and lovely residential districts.

Vancouver genuinely offers everything. The real estate market in Vancouver is the only disadvantage if you intend to relocate there.

In the suburbs, the cost of a family house can soon exceed $1 million, and any properties that come on the market are quickly purchased. As a result, finding a place to live can be challenging because even rent can be costly.

                                          Vancouver Canada

However, you may take advantage of all Vancouver offers after resolving your home situation. It has excellent links to nearby islands and other countries, so leaving the city and entering nature is frequently simpler than going downtown.

The economy of Vancouver is vibrant and diverse. Since the city is the third-most-popular filming destination after New York and LA, the film and television industries are major employers in the region.

Vancouver jobs are simple to locate and pay well, thanks to the 2010 Winter Olympics, which attracted investment that facilitates locating a home! However, Vancouver has a fairly high overall cost of living.

In most of Canada, Vancouver boasts the best public transportation, shopping areas, harbour, and well-maintained parks (Stanley Park is renowned worldwide). It also offers the best schools, hospitals, and medical services.

Since Vancouver’s weather is milder than other cities, outdoor activities are more available all year round. Vancouver is amazing if you can afford it.

                                          7. Calgary

There is a good probability that you will have to choose between Calgary and Edmonton if you are going to Alberta. Anyone moving to Canada will find that Calgary, the largest city in Alberta, has a lot to offer.

It is a vibrant metropolis with 1.5 million residents that is constantly alive and deeply rooted in the natural world and its surroundings. Life in Calgary is undoubtedly picturesque due to the city’s location at the elbow and bow of two rivers at the base of the Rocky Mountains.

The railway’s westward expansion initially caused Calgary to develop from a small village into a city. As a result, it combines all the city’s facilities with all the charm of a mountain village.

                                          Calgary Downtown

The entire region got enormous investment when Calgary was chosen as the host city for the 1988 Winter Olympics. However, despite having some of the best sporting facilities and transportation options, Calgary residents continue to profit financially. Calgary is one of the most diverse cities in Canada thanks to its 180 distinct neighbourhoods, each of which has its history and culture.

There is constantly something new to discover because redevelopment occurs in several older neighbourhoods. The city’s parks and outdoor areas are exceptionally maintained, particularly Prince Island Park, which hosts several festivities like a music festival and a cowboy stampede.

The great amenities and ongoing redevelopment are driving up house costs. For example, a condominium typically costs around CA$300,000, but a home typically costs around CA$500,000. Calgary is an easy area to move to if you’re seeking work because there are many positions in the tourist, film, manufacturing, aerospace, health, financial services, and transport sectors.
