Southwest Airways Acquires Renewable Jet Gasoline Startup Saffire

Southwest Airways is creating its personal ecosystem for renewable jet gas, meant to supply extra assured entry as manufacturing is scaled.

Southwest Airways has acquired a startup that makes renewable ethanol, which can be utilized to make jet gas. 


The startup, Saffire Renewables, is now a part of the airline’s wholly owned subsidiary, Southwest Airways Renewable Ventures. Phrases weren’t disclosed.

Saffire plans to transform 10 tons of corn stover into ethanol every day on the plant. Then, the plan is for that ethanol to be transformed into jet gas by the startup LanzaJet.


Southwest in February stated it invested $30 million in LanzaJet to additional develop and scale its tech, which converts low-carbon ethanol to jet gas. LanzaJet plans to open a manufacturing facility within the U.S., and Southwest plans to be the anchor buyer.
